Pregnancy comes with a lot of advice about what you can and can’t eat.
But beyond the lists, the rules and the things you’re suddenly Googling at 10pm, food during pregnancy can be much simpler: what actually tastes good, keeps you feeling satisfied and gives your body the nourishment it needs?
So we’re skipping the overly complicated meal plans and sharing 10 foods we’d actually add to the grocery list during pregnancy.
Easy, nourishing and genuinely delicious. Foods you’ll want to keep eating long after the baby arrives.
Here's our list of ten Superfoods to Eat During Pregnancy:
1. Eggs:
An easy one to keep in the fridge and one of the most versatile. Scrambled on toast, boiled for a quick snack or turned into a veggie-packed omelette.
Eggs provide protein and a range of nutrients, including choline, which is especially important during pregnancy.

2. Avocado:
Because sometimes you just want something creamy.
Add it to toast, throw it into a salad, blend it into a smoothie or eat it straight from the bowl with a little salt and lemon.
Avocado provides healthy fats, fibre and folate: making it an easy addition to plenty of pregnancy-friendly meals.

3. Greek Yoghurt:
A fridge staple for a reason.
Greek yoghurt is an easy source of protein and calcium and works just as well for breakfast as it does for an afternoon snack.
Add berries, banana, granola, nut butter or a drizzle of honey for something that feels a little more exciting.

4. Beans and Lentils:
For an easy dinner that feels like you’ve actually made an effort.
Salmon is a source of protein and omega-3 fatty acids, including DHA, which supports fetal brain and eye development. Pair it with rice, roasted vegetables or a simple salad for a quick, balanced meal.
Just make sure fish is prepared and cooked according to pregnancy food-safety guidance.

5. Lean Meat:
Your body needs a lot more protein during pregnancy, and lean beef or pork meat is an excellent source of protein.
Experts recommend that expectant mothers should eat six to eight ounces of lean meat per day.
Make sure to eat lean cuts of red meat, chicken, turkey, and fish.

6. Leafy Greens:
Spinach, kale, rocket, broccoli (basically, anything green gets a place on the list).
They’re an easy way to add folate, fibre and other vitamins and minerals to your meals.
Add spinach to your morning eggs, rocket to your pasta or broccoli to whatever you’re having for dinner.

7. Sweet Potato:
Comfort food that happens to be seriously nutritious.
Roast them, turn them into wedges, mash them, add them to tacos or throw them into a salad.
Sweet potatoes provide fibre and a range of vitamins and minerals, including beta-carotene.

8. Nuts & Nut Butter:
A handful of almonds, cashews or walnuts makes an easy snack, while nut butter can be added to toast, yoghurt, smoothies or fruit.
They’re a convenient source of protein, healthy fats and fibre; and particularly useful to have on hand when hunger suddenly hits.

9. Oats:
The ultimate breakfast base.
Warm them up with milk and top with banana, berries and nut butter, or make overnight oats the night before for an easy breakfast when mornings feel rushed.
They’re a good source of fibre and can be especially useful when you’re looking for filling, simple foods.

10. Beans & Lentils:
Don’t underestimate the humble pantry staple.
Chickpeas, lentils, black beans and cannellini beans are easy ways to add plant-based protein and fibre to meals.
Add them to soups, curries, salads, pasta or grain bowls for something hearty and satisfying.

FINAL NOTE:
Pregnancy nutrition doesn’t have to mean completely reinventing the way you eat.
Think variety, balance and foods you genuinely enjoy.
What sounds good can change from week to week (and sometimes from hour to hour) so give yourself some flexibility.
And of course, pregnancy comes with specific food-safety considerations. Always follow the guidance from your healthcare professional or a trusted Australian health authority, particularly around foods to avoid, fish consumption, pasteurisation and food preparation.
Because ultimately, the best pregnancy grocery list is one that makes you feel good, too.
