We have so many customers come into our South Yarra boutique wanting a pair of classic black jeans for everyday wear during pregnancy. The question we are always asked is which style of maternity jeans are best for them, overbelly or underbelly. Both styles have their benefits and the decision between the two comes down to a few key factors; your body type, how you are carrying (which can change pregnancy to pregnancy!) and what your jeans fit preference was pre-pregnancy. Our Essential Denim style comes in these two classic maternity cuts and we’ve put a lot of time into making sure they fit as best they can, but ultimately everyone has a preference between the two. Read the key fit factors below to help you decide between overbelly and underbelly: The Essential Maternity Denim was one of our very first denim styles and we still have customers coming back during their second and third pregnancy to buy a new pair because they practically lived in them during their first! This style has our our signature denim fit with a waist seam that scoops below the belly and soft band at the front that nurses your growing bump from below. You will like this style if you want something that doesn't feel like your wearing a maternity denim and will still look great post-pregnancy. This is also a style that works well if you'll be pregnant during the warmer months because you run a little hot during pregnancy and some people don’t want that extra layer of fabric up over their belly. This style sits low on the hips and the further along you get the more your belly pushes them down so make sure you buy a size that fits nice and snug through the hip and thigh because ultimately this is the are that holds them up. If you don’t like the idea of low-waisted jeans then perhaps the overbelly are for you. Our Essential Overbelly Maternity Denim are known for how insanely comfortable they are. We took a couple of seasons perfecting this fit so it is a relatively new addition to the Soon Premium Denim range but, oh boy, they were worth the wait! If you are used to wearing high waisted jeans pre-pregnancy then this style is for you - you’ll most likely feel more comfortable with the soft elastic waistband up over your belly so they feel more secure. As we mentioned earlier, everyone carries differently, some expectant mothers have sensitivity on their belly and can’t bare any pressure on the bump, whereas others feel most comfortable with a feeling of support over the belly. If you're the latter, the over belly is a good option for you because it will have you feeling nice and snug. This style also has a very soft waist seam that is less bulky than our signature underbelly waist seam so you can buy it confidently at the beginning of your pregnancy knowing it will stretch out with you.
